Special Study Program on Youth Ministry

Course Description: The Youth Ministry Initiative (“YMI”) will sponsor a special Summer Study program that will feature the nation’s leading Youth Ministry scholars and practitioners. Dean Chap Clark, Professor of Youth, Family and Culture at Fuller Theological Seminary and founder of the Fuller Youth Institute, will give the keynote lecture on June 17.
Unlike other Summer Study courses, registration is available by the day as well as for the week. Registration for this program is reduced due to YMI sponsorship. The program will be led by Skip Masback.
YMI is also the sponsor of the “Youth Ministry:Now” lunch and lecture series. As with the “Youth Ministry:Now” lectures, the National Conference on Youth Ministry will be organized around what Professor Roland Martinson has called the “Ten Basic Youth Ministry Practices”:
1) Trusted Relationships;
2) Engaging Worship;
3) Focused Prayer;
4) Life Care Groups;
5) Experiential Bible Study;
6) Service Projects;
7) Pilgrimages and Retreats;
8) Vocation and Leadership;
9) Partnership with Households;
10) Social Media and Pop Culture.

Instructor: Skip Masback is the Founding Director of the Youth Ministry Initiative, Director of the Adolescent Faith and Flourishing Program at Yale’s Center for Faith and Culture, and Senior Minister of the Congregational Church of New Canaan, where he has served since 1994.

Benton Family Associate Professor of Christian Education, Columbia Theological Seminary. Prior to his joining the faculty at Columbia, Dr. Nishioka served for 12 years as denominational staff in youth & young adult ministry for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
